Hillsborough support

Members on duty at a football match

Dedicated St John volunteers are providing first aid support at a memorial service today for the 96 Liverpool football fans killed in the Hillsborough disaster 20 years ago.

Ten first aiders have been on standby at the remembrance service as a tribute to those who lost their lives - 20 years after volunteers helped to treat the victims crushed in the tragedy at the stadium in Sheffield.

Simon Galley, Commissioner Operations for Merseyside said: 'We have a very long association with Liverpool Football Club and many of our volunteers were on duty when the disaster happened. Being there today with the families of the people who lost their lives and the survivors has been a very moving experience and one we're proud to be part of.'
